   I have an almost 16-month-old who is interested in “helping” with whatever I am doing in the kitchen. I love to cook, so it delights me that she is curious and wants to participate, but standing on a chair was just not hacking it. Our space is really small, so I was keen to get one of these stepladders so that she can be at a counter level to “help” and wash her hands in the bathroom and just do other things where being above floor level was beneficial. It was important that this fold up so that we could store it when not in use. It was easy to put together, and with a bit of help, she could get up the steps to stand in the perimeter of the ‘fence’ at the top. You can put the fence post up, and once your little one is in there, you pull it down to secure it. It does feel relatively stable (obviously, I would not leave her in there unattended), and unless your child decided to try to dive off of the top, they are not going anywhere. My issue is the folding feature. Yes, you can fold it up. However, when you try to have it leaning against a wall, the largest platform, step smacks down. It also might stay put on something like carpet, but what I have come to realize is that in the featured pictures, there are little turquoise peg things allowing it to be stored flush against the wall. I feel like the folding to store and keep it compact was a bit misrepresented. I think I will be looking for a different alternative, maybe in wood, but this will totally work for now.

   We have two other options for the 2.5 year old to assist with meal prep. One is the step ladder we use which is stable with a large platform but not much in the realm of safety measures. The second option was one of the box design platforms for toddlers that converts into a desk. The second one I never felt was very stable and was not really foldable. Overall, I really like this product. It is very stable and has the capability to adjust to the child’s needs as they mature. I appreciate that the step stool was designed with plenty of area to stand and grab for leverage as the child climbs up. The stool will not be able to be carried and set up by a child for a while since it does have some weight to it but less than our adult step stool. Also, when fully in use the platforms lock in which adds to the feeling of safety, but will limit a child from using it on there own. The shark look is cool and our kid who loves animals really likes that. I am pretty close to the max weight and if I needed to I would not be concerned about breaking this if I used it. My only real issue is storage. When fully folded it does take up a decent amount of area. Also, it does not stand up straight when leaning up against the wall without sliding on the wood floor. I fairly easily resolved that by placing non-skid flood protectors on the rounded part and that resolved that issue. I think the product is reasonably priced for for the safety and long term use it provides.
